Meraas previews a residential vision for Dubai Design District
At Dubai Design Week, a Meraas pavilion explores how housing and public space could sit alongside the district’s design studios and waterfront.
A neighbourhood in the making
The 12th Dubai Design Week runs at Dubai Design District, known as d3, from 3 to 8 November. Meraas, part of Dubai Holding Real Estate, is using a pavilion to show how its proposed residential masterplan takes cues from the creative district. The organiser lists the pavilion at d3 until Sunday 8 November, from 10am to 10pm local time.
The installation, developed with Duette Studio, turns elements of the plan into spaces visitors can walk through. The developer describes a sequence of places for gathering, creative work and quieter moments. The pavilion gives visitors a way to consider the relationships between the proposed homes, landscape and the public waterfront.
How the buildings meet the district
Much of the appeal of living in a creative district depends on what happens between its buildings. A short, shaded route to a café or studio can matter as much in everyday use as a view from a balcony. The ground floor of each building, the routes to the waterfront and the balance between public and residents’ spaces will shape that experience.
Design Week also gives visitors a sense of the district as it operates today. Walk the routes between galleries and public spaces, take in the scale of the streets and consider how the area feels beyond the main event programme. Those observations give the pavilion’s interpretation a practical frame of reference.
From exhibition to an address
The pavilion presents a design concept at district level. Buyers following a specific project can assess it once the site plan, phasing, access arrangements and service obligations are documented. The questions are precise. Which routes and amenities belong to the first phase? What is public, what is shared and who maintains it? The answers will determine how well the built neighbourhood delivers the idea shown at d3.
